A Generation of Challenged Youth – How Acupuncture and TCM Can Help

In this morning talk, practitioners will learn to understand the diagnosis of autism and ADD/ADHD. We will review the requirements for a diagnosis of these conditions from a Western medical perspective. We will then review how to understand the diagnosis from the perspective of Chinese medicine. Practitioners will also learn how to approach and treat these children with both acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas.

Abdominal Acupuncture in a Turtle Shell

This one hour talk by Dave Shipsey, author of “Mastering the Art of Abdominal Acupuncture, a concise guide to treating numerous painful conditions”, the first English language book on this topic, will give you an insight into the reasons why abdominal acupuncture is such a powerful and yet gentle system of acupuncture. Dave will provide you with a detailed synopsis of this system from its inception to the practicalities of using it in general practice. You will learn about the Turtle hologram used in the abdominal and the different levels of the abdominal system. Dave will discuss a number of case histories and why he uses this form of acupuncture 90% of the time in his practice. You will also learn a simple treatment protocol for treating low back pain.

With the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and autism becoming a very common occurrence, many practitioners are seeing an increase in the number of parents looking for alternatives for their children. Acupuncture and herbs have proven very effective in managing both autism and ADD/ADHD , therefore acupuncturists and herbalists are uniquely poised to provide specialized treatments and advice that parents cannot obtain anywhere else.. This afternoon workshop will delve deeper into the Chinese medical understanding of ADD/ADHD and autism and further refine 5-element types and pattern diagnosis. Treatment protocols for both acupuncture and herbal interventions will be shared for the most common problems areas. Practitioners will leave feeling confident in treatments including dietary advice, acupuncture points, and herbal formulas.

Five Structure Acupuncture Techniques: Flying the Qi Toward the Location of Illness

This three hour lecture introduces Traditional Five Structure Acupuncture Techniques.  By using three groups of traditional acupuncture points, learn how to apply needling techniques to cutaneous and vessel structures, tendons, ligaments, and the periosteum.  Understand protocols encompassing needling assessment and insertion pathways for acupuncture points.  Practical demonstrations of needling techniques will be illustrated including the procedure for flying the Qi towards the location of illness.  Identifying clinical applications and anatomical safety during manipulation will also be covered.
